South Fork comes to life in the spring. Melting mountain snows fill streams and lakes, make the fishing fantastic. rushing water also means white water rafting through some of the most spectacular scenery in the country. You can visit the headwaters of the Rio Grande which start in the mountains above South Fork and flows right through town. This river continues on hundreds of miles to cross the Texas/Mexico border. Spring is also the time to get out your hiking boots. There are many marked trails through the Aspen forests that surround South Fork. If you'd prefer to ride the trails, horseback riding or mountain biking may be the answer. When the day is done, pamper yourself in one of our four hot tubs. Aches and pains are soothed away.

Summer lets you set your own pace in South Fork. There's so much to do. Besides hiking, fishing and horseback riding, there's shopping and sightseeing. Highway 149 is designated a Colorado Scenic Byway, "The Silver Thread", stretching from South Fork to Lake City. Nearby is the Great Sand Dunes National Monument at the base of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Here you can enjoy Colorado sunshine and the desert-like dunes along side a flowing river. Where else but near South Fork! For those who like a challenge, you can follow the old logging trails up through the mountains. They're maintained by the Forest Service so you can enjoy the breathtaking mountain scenery. Relax and enjoy an evening under the stars in one of our outside hot tubs.
