Monte Vista – Spanish for Mountain View is a historic, lively city located in the heart of the San Luis Valley. In every direction you look, you are surrounded by some of Colorado’s magnificent 14,000 ft. peaks. Monte Vista is attractive to commercial, agriculture, social and cultural activities.

A year in Monte Vista is full of activities beginning in March with the annual migration of the Sandhill and endangered Whooping cranes. It is during this time that Monte Vista is “flocked” with visitors from all over the world coming to the Crane Festival. The Festival celebrates the migration of the prehistoric and majestic birds in additions to other birds and wildlife.

Throughout the year visitors and residents can see historic buildings and homes in Monte Vista. The Monte Vista Historical Society works very hard to preserve our heritage. You can also visit the Transportation of the West Museum in downtown Monte Vista for another view of our history from horse drawn carriages to automobiles.
